Description

A delightful dish of seared tuna steak topped with fresh avocado salsa, perfect for casual dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 fresh tuna steaks
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the diced avocado, red onion, cherry tomatoes, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and jalapeño if using. Toss gently to combine and set aside.
  2. Pat the tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Rub each side of the steaks with olive oil, seasoning generously with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over high heat. If necessary, add a small amount of oil to the pan.
  4. Sear the tuna steaks for 1–2 minutes per side for rare, adjusting the time for your preferred level of doneness.
  5. Remove from heat and let the steaks rest for a few minutes before slicing against the grain, if desired.
  6. Top each steak with a generous spoonful of avocado salsa and serve with lime wedges.

Notes

Allow tuna to come to room temperature before cooking for even cooking. Keep the avocado salsa fresh by preparing it just before serving.
