Ingredients

  • 4 oz (113 g) crab meat
  • 6 oz (170 g) shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 large red pepper, roughly chopped
  • 1 medium onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) minced garlic
  • 8 oz (227 g) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Old Bay seasoning
  • 2 cups (480 ml) beef broth
  • 1/3 cup (40 g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) chopped chives
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Carefully examine the crab meat to ensure it is free from any shell fragments. Peel the shrimp, removing the tails and legs, and clean them by taking out the veins.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a medium-sized pot over medium-high heat. Toss in the chopped red pepper and onion, cooking them for 5-7 minutes until they become tender. Add the minced garlic, stirring for an additional minute.
  3. Incorporate the tomato sauce, hot sauce, Old Bay seasoning, and beef broth into the mixture. Stir everything together, then add the crab and shrimp. Allow the mixture to reach a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer.
  4. Blend the soup using a food processor or a high-speed blender until it is smooth.
  5. Serve in bowls, topping with grated Parmesan cheese. Add chopped chives for garnish and season with salt and pepper according to your preference.

Notes

  • Thoroughly clean the shrimp by removing tails and veins for a cleaner eating experience.
  • Adjust the hot sauce amount based on your spice preference to control the soup’s heat level.
  • Consider using freshly grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor instead of pre-grated cheese.
