Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) (450 grams) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil (30 milliliters)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) maple syrup (30 milliliters)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) soy sauce (15 milliliters)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) lemon juice (15 milliliters)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) chili powder (5 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) smoked paprika (2 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) ground cumin (2 grams)
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml) ground black pepper (1 gram)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • Wooden or metal skewers


Instructions

  1. Soak wooden skewers in water for at least 30 minutes if using wooden skewers.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, honey, soy sauce, and lime juice.
  3. Add garlic powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, and cayenne pepper to the bowl.
  4. Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Whisk the marinade ingredients together until well combined.
  6. Place the peeled and deveined shrimp into the marinade, ensuring they are well coated.
  7. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to marinate.
  8. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  9. Thread the marinated shrimp onto skewers, leaving a little space between each shrimp.
  10. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  11. Place the shrimp skewers on the grill.
  12. Grill shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn pink and opaque.
  13. Remove skewers from the grill and transfer to a serving platter.
  14. Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.
  15. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
