Ingredients
- 1 whole fish, about 1.5 pounds (680 g) (680 grams), cleaned and scaled
- 30 ml soy sauce
- 15 ml sesame oil
- 4-5 thin slices of fresh ginger
- 3 scallions, cut into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces
- 15 ml vegetable oil
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Rinse the whole fish under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Season the fish with salt and freshly ground black pepper on both sides.
- Place the fish on a heatproof plate that fits inside your steamer.
- Arrange the ginger slices evenly on top of the fish.
- Fill a large pot or wok with a couple of inches of water and bring to a boil.
- Place the plate with the fish into the steamer basket.
- Cover the steamer and steam the fish over boiling water for 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Carefully remove the plate from the steamer and set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce and sesame oil together.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a small pan over medium-high heat until hot.
- Scatter the scallion pieces over the steamed fish.
- Pour the hot vegetable oil over the scallions and fish to sizzle and enhance flavor.
- Drizzle the soy sauce and sesame oil mixture over the fish.
- Serve the steamed fish immediately.

- Consider thinly slicing the ginger for a more intense flavor.
