Ingredients

  • 1 lb squid (cleaned and cut into rings) (450 g)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (30 ml)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 inch ginger (grated)
  • 1 red chili (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian oyster sauce (15 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sugar (5 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (15 ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper (1 gram)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) green onions (sliced) (30 grams)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) cilantro (chopped) (15 grams)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) bell pepper (sliced) (75 grams)
  • Salt to taste


Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan.
  3. Stir-fry the garlic and ginger for 1 minute until aromatic.
  4. Add the sliced red chili and stir-fry for another 30 seconds.
  5. Increase the heat to high and add the squid rings to the pan.
  6. Stir-fry the squid for 2-3 minutes until they start to turn opaque.
  7. Add the sliced bell pepper to the pan and stir-fry for 2 more minutes.
  8. Pour in 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce.
  9. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper to the pan.
  10. Stir well to combine all ingredients and coat the squid.
  11. Add 1 tablespoon of lime juice and stir-fry for another 1 minute.
  12. Taste and season with salt as needed.
  13. Remove the pan from heat and mix in the sliced green onions and chopped cilantro.
  14. Serve the spicy stir-fried squid immediately while hot.
