Description

A delightful blend of seasoned sushi rice and crispy Spam, this Spam Musubi Bake is easy to prepare and perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans Spam, cubed
  • 8 cups sushi rice, cooked (or 2 cups uncooked)
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • Japanese mayo
  • Furikake
  • Roasted seaweed
  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Fry Spam cubes in a pan on medium heat until all sides are crispy, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix together soy sauce, mirin, and sugar to make a glaze for the Spam; reduce heat to low and pour the glaze over Spam, simmer for about 3 minutes until thickened.
  3. Layer rice, furikake, and glazed Spam in a 9×13 casserole dish. Drizzle with Japanese mayo and top with more furikake.
  4. Broil in the oven at 500°F for 3 minutes until the top is toasty.
  5. Top with green onions, serve with roasted seaweed, and enjoy!

Notes

Use short-grain sushi rice for best results and let the glaze simmer for optimal flavor.
