Description

A nostalgic and delicious Southern fried shrimp recipe that evokes the joy of summer gatherings with its crispy texture and savory flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, Ranch dressing, or other condiments as desired

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or skillet until it reaches 375°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shrimp with milk, dried oregano, paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Mix well and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix all-purpose flour, oregano, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and ground black pepper.
  4. Remove shrimp from the milk mixture, drain excess, and dredge in the flour mixture.
  5. Carefully place shrimp into the hot oil and fry for 3-5 minutes until golden brown, turning as necessary.
  6. Remove shrimp and drain on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauces.

Notes

Use a thermometer to check the oil’s temperature accurately. Fry in small batches to maintain the oil temperature and achieve a consistent crunch.
