Description

A beloved Louisiana dish featuring shrimp in a rich, flavorful sauce over rice, capturing the essence of coastal cooking.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice for serving
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns a light brown color (about 5 minutes).
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic; cook until the vegetables are soft (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, chicken broth, Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink (about 3-5 minutes).
  5. Serve the shrimp mixture over cooked rice and garnish with green onions.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh shrimp and experiment with the Cajun seasoning to suit your taste.
