Ingredients
- 1 lb raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 1 egg, beaten
- ¼ cup green onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ cup cilantro, chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for binding)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the shrimp mixture: Begin by finely chopping the shrimp into small pieces.
- Combine the chopped shrimp, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, green onions, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a large mixing bowl.
- Add soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to the mix and stir until blended.
- Mix in cornstarch if the mixture feels loose, which is optional.
- Shape small balls about the size of a golf ball and place them on a plate.
- Cook the shrimp balls in heated vegetable oil over medium heat, frying until golden brown and crisp, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce.
Notes
Maintain the oil temperature between 350°F and 375°F for crispy results. Avoid overcrowding the pan while frying.
