Description

A classic southern dish combining creamy stone-ground grits with savory shrimp, seasoned to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth or water
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Optional: green onions, bell peppers, or tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the grits by bringing chicken broth or water to a boil in a pot.
  2. Slowly whisk in the grits, stirring to prevent lumps.
  3. Reduce heat and let the grits simmer, stirring occasionally, until they become creamy and tender, about 20-25 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat and add the minced garlic.
  5. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, then add the shrimp.
  6. Cook the shrimp until they turn pink, about 3-4 minutes.
  7. Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, and paprika, stirring until evenly coated.
  8. Once the grits are done, stir in any optional ingredients like cheese or cream for extra richness.
  9. Serve the shrimp over a generous scoop of grits and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

Feel free to customize with your favorite spices or vegetables. Leftovers store well; reheat gently with added broth.
