Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined (450 grams)

- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder (5 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked paprika (5 grams)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 2 cup (480 ml) s water (480 milliliters)
- 1 cup (240 ml) quick-cooking grits (160 grams)
- 1 cup (240 ml) shredded cheddar cheese (115 grams)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) butter (60 grams)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) sliced green onions (50 grams)
- 2 cans refrigerated biscuit dough (about 16 biscuits total)
- 1 egg, beaten
- Optional : hot sauce for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet.
- Season the shrimp with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Cook the shrimp for 3-4 minutes until pink and opaque, then set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Gradually stir in the quick-cooking grits.
- Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently, for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and butter until melted and smooth.
- Remove the grits from heat and mix in the sliced green onions.
- Open the cans of refrigerated biscuit dough.
- Flatten each biscuit into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of grits mixture in the center of each biscuit.
- Top each with a shrimp.
- Fold the edges of the biscuit over the filling and pinch to seal.
- Arrange the filled biscuits in a ring shape on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the biscuits with the beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
- Serve with optional hot sauce on the side.
