Ingredients

  • 1 package of wonton wrappers
  • 8 ounces (227 g) of cooked shrimp chopped
  • 8 ounces (227 g) block of cream cheese softened
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) sesame oil
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) fresh minced ginger
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) minced green onions
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) cold water
  • Sesame seeds
  • Chives


Instructions

  1. Set your oven to preheat at 375°F.
  2. Let the cream cheese sit out for 20-30 minutes to reach room temperature.
  3. Dice the shrimp into small pieces.
  4. Finely chop the garlic and ginger, then slice the green onions.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the chopped shrimp, sesame oil, rice vinegar, freshly minced ginger and garlic, and the chopped green onions.
  6. To ensure the wontons keep their shape while baking, use a mini muffin pan.
  7. Lightly coat the muffin pan with cooking spray.
  8. Gently press a wonton wrapper into each muffin cup.
  9. Spoon a teaspoon of the cream cheese filling into the center of each wonton wrapper.
  10. Moisten the wrapper edges with cold water using a brush.
  11. Carefully bring the wrapper edges together, twisting slightly to seal.
  12. After sealing, brush the wonton wrapper edges with water again.
  13. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
  14. Place in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until they turn golden.
  15. Meanwhile, mix low-sodium soy sauce and a tablespoon of cold water to create the dipping sauce.
  16. Add sesame seeds and a few chives to the dipping sauce.
  17. Once the wontons are baked, arrange them on a serving dish and garnish with chives.
  18. Present the crispy wontons with the dipping sauce at the center of the platter.
