A comforting Southern dish featuring creamy grits paired with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 cup grits
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
- In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the grits and cook according to package directions until thickened. Stir in the cheese and keep warm.
- In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
- In the same pan, add the shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste, along with the butter.
- To serve, spoon the cheese grits onto a plate, top with shrimp, and sprinkle crispy bacon and green onions on top.
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding a clove or two of garlic while cooking the shrimp. Experiment with different cheeses for unique variations.
