Description

A comforting Southern dish featuring creamy grits paired with succulent shrimp and crispy bacon.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices of bacon, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the grits and cook according to package directions until thickened. Stir in the cheese and keep warm.
  2. In a skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  3. In the same pan, add the shrimp and cook until pink and opaque, about 3-4 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste, along with the butter.
  4. To serve, spoon the cheese grits onto a plate, top with shrimp, and sprinkle crispy bacon and green onions on top.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding a clove or two of garlic while cooking the shrimp. Experiment with different cheeses for unique variations.
