Ingredients

  • – 16 ounces (454 g) breaded shrimp
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vegetable oil
  • – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) minced garlic
  • – 1/4 cup (60 ml) honey
  • – 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce, low sodium
  • – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) ketchup
  • – 3 tablespoons (45 ml) brown sugar
  • – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) rice vinegar
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) toasted sesame oil
  • – 2 teaspoons (10 ml) corn starch
  • – 1 tablespoon (15 ml) sesame seeds
  • – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) green onions, sliced
  • – cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Warm up the oven and lightly mist a baking sheet with cooking spray. Arrange the breaded shrimp on the sheet. Cook the shrimp in the oven as per the instructions on the package.
  2. During the baking time, create the sauce.
  3. Combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch in a mixing bowl.
  4. Warm the vegetable oil in a small saucepan on medium heat. Introduce the garlic and sauté for half a minute. Pour in the honey mixture and allow it to simmer. Let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until it slightly thickens.
  5. Once the shrimp are done, take them out of the oven. Pour the sauce over the shrimp and stir to ensure they are well-coated. Scatter sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the top and serve.

Notes

  • To thicken the sauce, mix cornstarch with water before adding it to the mixture.
  • Try using whole grain breaded shrimp or air-fried shrimp for a healthier option.
  • Customize the sauce by adding red pepper flakes for spice or fresh lime juice for a citrusy touch.
