Ingredients
- 4 large round bread rolls or sourdough loaves
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil or melted butter for brushing
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 5 lb (227 g) shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
- 5 lb (227 g) crab meat (lump or claw)
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream (or half-and-half)
- 5 cup (120 ml) chicken or seafood broth
- 25 cup (60 ml) cream cheese, softened
- 5 cup (120 ml) shredded moz zarella cheese
- 5 cup (120 ml) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp (5 ml) Old Bay seasoning
- 25 tsp (1 ml) smoked paprika (optional )
Instructions
- Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to preheat.
- Slice off the tops of the bread rolls or loaves and remove the insides, leaving a sturdy shell.
- Coat the insides and outsides of the bread bowls with olive oil or melted butter.
- Place in the oven for 10–15 minutes until they achieve a golden, crispy texture.
- Warm butter and olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Cook the onion until it’s tender, then add garlic and continue cooking until aromatic.
- Introduce the shrimp and cook until they turn pink, then mix in the crab meat.
- Add cream and broth, stirring well to blend.
- Incorporate cream cheese, mozzarella, and Parmesan, stirring until the mixture becomes smooth and velvety.
- Season with Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika if desired, and adjust salt and pepper to your liking.
- Allow the mixture to gently simmer for a few minutes until it thickens.
- Fill the prepared bread bowls with the seafood mixture.
- Top with additional mozzarella or Parmesan for a cheesy layer.
- Bake for 5–10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Add a sprinkle of fresh parsley for a touch of color.
- Serve with the bread tops or extra crusty bread for dipping.
