Ingredients

  • 5 large scallops
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (30 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (14 g)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (5 ml)
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Rinse the scallops under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Season the scallops with salt and black pepper on both sides.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, add the scallops to the skillet.
  5. Sear the scallops for 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  6. Flip the scallops and add the butter to the skillet.
  7. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the scallops are opaque and firm.
  8. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds.
  9. Drizzle lemon juice over the scallops and remove from heat.
  10. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the scallops for garnish.
  11. Serve the scallops immediately with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Properly pat dry the scallops before seasoning for a perfect sear.
  • Avoid overcooking to prevent toughness and rubbery texture.
  • Butter, garlic, and lemon juice create a delightful flavor profile, while fresh parsley adds color and freshness.
