Ingredients
- 450 g extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined (16 oz.)
- 60 ml minced fresh garlic (nearly 1 medium head) (1/4 cup)
- 15 ml all-purpose flour (1 Tbsp)
- 5 ml paprika (1 1/2 tsp)
- 5 ml cayenne pepper (optional) (1/8 tsp)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 85 g unsalted butter, diced into 1 Tbsp pieces (6 Tbsp)
- 30 ml vegetable oil (2 Tbsp)
- 15 ml fresh lemon juice (1 Tbsp)
- 15 ml minced fresh parsley (optional) (1 Tbsp)
Instructions
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove any extra moisture and place them in a mixing bowl.
- Dust the shrimp with flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and season with salt and pepper to your liking. Mix until the shrimp are evenly coated.
- Heat the butter along with the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet, approximately 12 inches in diameter.
- Introduce the garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until it becomes aromatic, ensuring it doesn’t brown.
- Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook until the underside turns a pinkish hue, approximately 2 minutes. Flip the shrimp over and continue cooking the other side until fully cooked, around another 2 minutes.
- Take the skillet off the heat, toss the shrimp with lemon juice, and sprinkle with parsley if desired.
- Serve immediately, drizzling any remaining garlic butter sauce from the pan over the top.
Notes
- Pat the shrimp dry before coating with flour and spices for even cooking and a crispy texture. Adjust cayenne pepper to taste or omit for a milder dish. Be cautious not to overcook the shrimp; they should be pink and opaque.
