Discover the secret to making mouthwatering Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp at home with this easy recipe. Learn how to recreate this popular island dish today!

Ingredients

  • 450 g extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined (16 oz.)
  • 60 ml minced fresh garlic (nearly 1 medium head) (1/4 cup)
  • 15 ml all-purpose flour (1 Tbsp)
  • 5 ml paprika (1 1/2 tsp)
  • 5 ml cayenne pepper (optional) (1/8 tsp)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 85 g unsalted butter, diced into 1 Tbsp pieces (6 Tbsp)
  • 30 ml vegetable oil (2 Tbsp)
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice (1 Tbsp)
  • 15 ml minced fresh parsley (optional) (1 Tbsp)

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels to remove any extra moisture and place them in a mixing bowl.
  2. Dust the shrimp with flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, and season with salt and pepper to your liking. Mix until the shrimp are evenly coated.
  3. Heat the butter along with the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet, approximately 12 inches in diameter.
  4. Introduce the garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until it becomes aromatic, ensuring it doesn’t brown.
  5. Arrange the shrimp in a single layer in the skillet. Cook until the underside turns a pinkish hue, approximately 2 minutes. Flip the shrimp over and continue cooking the other side until fully cooked, around another 2 minutes.
  6. Take the skillet off the heat, toss the shrimp with lemon juice, and sprinkle with parsley if desired.
  7. Serve immediately, drizzling any remaining garlic butter sauce from the pan over the top.

Notes

  • Pat the shrimp dry before coating with flour and spices for even cooking and a crispy texture. Adjust cayenne pepper to taste or omit for a milder dish. Be cautious not to overcook the shrimp; they should be pink and opaque.
