Description

A delightful fried cod fish sandwich featuring crispy golden fillets, fresh brioche buns, and a crunchy slaw, perfect for summer meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 fillets of fresh cod
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw
  • 0.5 cup tartar sauce
  • Optional: Fresh dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato slices

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix buttermilk and lemon juice. Submerge cod fillets and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Remove fillets from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry fillets for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Toast brioche buns, spread tartar sauce on one half, and layer with a fried cod fillet, coleslaw, and optional veggies.
  7. Top with the other half of the bun, and serve immediately.

Notes

For an extra spiciness, adjust the cayenne in the coating. Pair with fries or a salad.
