Description
A delightful fried cod fish sandwich featuring crispy golden fillets, fresh brioche buns, and a crunchy slaw, perfect for summer meals.
Ingredients
- 2 fillets of fresh cod
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 4 brioche buns
- 1 cup coleslaw
- 0.5 cup tartar sauce
- Optional: Fresh dill pickles, lettuce, and tomato slices
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix buttermilk and lemon juice. Submerge cod fillets and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a shallow dish, combine flour, cornmeal, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove fillets from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in the flour-cornmeal mixture.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry fillets for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Toast brioche buns, spread tartar sauce on one half, and layer with a fried cod fillet, coleslaw, and optional veggies.
- Top with the other half of the bun, and serve immediately.
Notes
For an extra spiciness, adjust the cayenne in the coating. Pair with fries or a salad.
