Description

A delightful and crispy fried calamari recipe that brings the flavors of the seaside to your kitchen. Perfect for any gathering!

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lbs fresh or frozen squid
  • 2 cups heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (for tenderizing)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing your squid into even rings. Set aside.
  2. Add the squid to a large bowl. Next, add salt and heavy cream for tenderizing. Let sit for at least 20 minutes.
  3. Pour three inches of oil into a large skillet and preheat to 350°F.
  4. Prepare the dry batter by whisking together flour, cornmeal, cornstarch, Old Bay, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and salt.
  5. Coat the wet squid pieces in dry batter, shaking off excess flour.
  6. Fry the squid in batches for 5 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Don’t skip the marination process; it’s essential for tender squid. Monitor the oil temperature for perfect frying.
