Ingredients

  • – 2 lbs (900 g) white fish fillets (like tilapia, haddock, snapper, cod, or sole)
  • – salt and pepper
  • – 2 tsp (10 ml) paprika
  • – 1/2 tsp (3 ml) cayenne
  • – 1 tsp (5 ml) garlic powder
  • – 1 tsp (5 ml) ground cumin
  • – 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • – warmed flour tortillas for serving
  • – slaw for fish tacos
  • – lime crema

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle both sides of the fish fillets with salt and pepper. In a separate small dish, mix together the paprika, cayenne, garlic powder, and cumin. Dust this spice blend evenly over both sides of the fish. Pour 1 tablespoon of oil into a grill pan and warm it over medium-high heat. Lay half of the fish in the pan and cook until you notice the edges beginning to turn opaque, roughly 3 minutes. Turn the fish over and cook until it easily breaks apart with a fork and is slightly translucent, as the remaining heat will finish cooking it. Move the cooked fish to a plate and repeat the process with the rest of the fish.
  2. Place the cooked fish inside warmed tortillas, top with cabbage slaw, and finish with a drizzle of lime crema.

Notes

  • Marinate fish in spice blend for 30 minutes for a more intense flavor.
  • Experiment with different types of white fish to discover your preferred option.
  • Pat fish fillets dry before seasoning to achieve a crispy texture when cooked.
