Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) shrimp, peeled and deveined (450 grams)
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) olive oil (30 milliliters)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) all-purpose flour (30 grams)
- 4 cups (960 ml) seafood or vegetable broth (960 milliliters)
- 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream (240 milliliters)
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) tomato paste (60 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) paprika
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) cayenne pepper
- 1 tablespoon (15 ml) lemon juice (15 milliliters)
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add shrimp to the pot and cook until pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove shrimp from the pot and set aside.
- Add remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pot.
- Add onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
- Sprinkle flour over the onion and garlic, stirring well to combine.
- Gradually pour in the broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Add tomato paste, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to the pot.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and bring back to a simmer.
- Chop the cooked shrimp and add half to the pot.
- Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth.
- Return the pot to the stove and add the remaining shrimp.
- Stir in the lemon juice and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

- Enhance the flavor by using seafood broth for a richer taste. Increase flour for a thicker, creamier consistency. Adjust cayenne pepper to suit spice preference, adding more if desired.
