Description

A flavor-packed Mediterranean dish featuring tender baked octopus, enhanced with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and aromatic spices.

Ingredients

  • 2.53 pounds (1.1 – 1.4 kg) octopus (fresh or thawed)
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Pinch of ground black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 5 allspice kernels
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 whole garlic clove, skin on (optional)
  • Additional olive oil and balsamic vinegar for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 320°F (160°C).
  2. Prepare the octopus by removing the eyes and internal organs, then tenderize it by lightly pounding.
  3. Lay a cross of two sheets of foil and place baking paper in the center.
  4. Place the octopus on top and pour olive oil and balsamic vinegar over it.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining ingredients around the octopus and wrap the foil tightly.
  6. Bake for 1 hour and 30 minutes, then check for fork tenderness.
  7. If still tough, rewrap and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
  8. Remove from the foil, slice, and drizzle with olive oil and vinegar before serving.

Notes

Serve alongside fresh herbs or crusty bread for a complete meal. Adjust spices to personal taste.
