Description

Delicious crispy oven-fried fish bites served with a homemade tartar sauce, perfect for any mealtime.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cod or halibut fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon creole seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • Non-stick canola oil spray
  • 1/2 cup mayo (for tartar sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 2 tablespoons dill relish
  • 1/2 teaspoon creole seasoning (for tartar sauce)
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tartar sauce by combining mayo, sour cream, sweet relish, dill relish, creole seasoning, salt, and black pepper in a bowl. Mix until smooth and set aside in the fridge.
  2. Season the panko breadcrumbs with salt and black pepper. Spread the seasoned flour on one plate and the panko on another.
  3. Dip each fish piece into the seasoned flour, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour, then dip the fish into the milk and egg mixture.
  4. Roll the coated fish in the panko breadcrumbs until fully covered. Place the breaded fish pieces on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Lightly spray the fish with non-stick canola oil spray for a golden finish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden and cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  7. Serve hot with a side of homemade tartar sauce and wedges of fresh lemon.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider double dipping your fish. Ensure fish pieces are dry before breading to avoid sogginess.
