Description

A light and crispy batter perfect for frying seafood, bringing the flavors of childhood seaside restaurants into your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cold water or club soda
  • Seafood of choice (fish, shrimp, etc.)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix together flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  2. Gradually add cold water or club soda while whisking until the batter is smooth.
  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip your seafood into the batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  5. Carefully place the battered seafood in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, approximately 3-5 minutes.
  6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

Notes

Pat seafood dry before dipping for better batter adherence. Allow batter to sit briefly for improved lightness.
