Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped onions with buttermilk and let sit for 15 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in another bowl.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Dip onion pieces into the flour mixture, coating well.
  5. Fry in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.

Notes

Allow the battered onion pieces to rest a few minutes before frying to ensure a better coating adherence.
