Description

A classic dish featuring crispy cod fillets paired with perfectly fried chips, evoking seaside memories.

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces of cod fillets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup beer or sparkling water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large potatoes
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut the potatoes into thick chips and soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes. Then, drain and pat them dry.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  3. In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and pepper. Dip each cod fillet into the flour, followed by the beer or sparkling water, and finally coat them with breadcrumbs until fully covered.
  4. Fry the cod fillets in the hot oil until they turn golden brown and are cooked through, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the cod and let them drain on paper towels.
  5. Fry the soaked chips in the same oil until golden and crispy, around 5-7 minutes. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
  6. Serve the crispy cod and chips with lemon wedges.

Notes

Consider double-breading the cod fillets for extra crispiness. Serve with tartar sauce or a side salad for added flair.
