Ingredients

  • 1 pound (454 g) large prawns, peeled and deveined (450 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) cornstarch (30 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground white pepper (2 grams)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) black pepper (1 gram)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder (3 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Chinese five-spice powder (2 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) vegetable oil (15 milliliters)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 fresh red chili, sliced
  • 1 fresh green chili, sliced


Instructions

  1. Pat the prawns dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, white pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and Chinese five-spice powder.
  3. Add the prawns to the bowl and toss to coat them evenly with the spice mixture.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the prawns to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until crispy and pink.
  6. Remove the prawns from the skillet and set them aside on a plate.
  7. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  8. Add the sliced green onions, red chili, and green chili to the skillet.
  9. Stir-fry the vegetables for 1-2 minutes until they are slightly softened.
  10. Return the prawns to the skillet and toss everything together for about 1 minute.
  11. Serve the prawns hot, garnished with the cooked vegetables.
