Ingredients
- 1 lb lump crab meat
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 cups seafood broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
- A pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add Tomato Paste: Stir in the tomato paste and cook for an additional 2 minutes, allowing it to slightly caramelize.
- Incorporate Broth and Cream: Pour in the seafood broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Slowly stir in the heavy cream, ensuring a smooth consistency.
- Add Crab and Spices: Gently fold in the crab meat, paprika, and fresh thyme. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the bisque thickens to your desired consistency.
- Serve: Ladle the bisque into bowls, garnish with fresh parsley or a sprinkle of paprika, and optionally, add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a bit of heat. Serve hot.
Notes
Opt for high-quality seafood broth for the best flavor. Fresh herbs enhance taste significantly.
