Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) large prawns, peeled and deveined (450 grams)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) cornstarch (60 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt (5 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground white pepper (2 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) ground black pepper (2 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder (3 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) onion powder (3 grams)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) Chinese five spice powder (1 gram)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 red chili, sliced
- 1 green chili, sliced
Instructions
- Rinse the prawns under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, white pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Chinese five spice powder.
- Toss the prawns in the spiced cornstarch mixture until they are well coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, fry the prawns in batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the prawns from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the sliced green onions, red chili, and green chili to the pan, and stir-fry for 1 minute.
- Add the fried prawns to the pan and toss to combine with the aromatics.
- Serve immediately, garnished with extra sliced green onions if desired.
