Description
A vibrant and flavorful dish featuring plump prawns, seasoned and coated to crispy perfection with aromatic garlic and a kick of heat from fresh chilies.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) large prawns, peeled and deveined (tails on)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon white pepper
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-2 red chilies, finely chopped
- 3 green onions, finely sliced
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Prawns: Clean the prawns under cold running water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Prepare the Coating and Seasoning: Mix cornstarch, all-purpose flour, white pepper, black pepper, salt, and Chinese five-spice powder in a bowl.
- Fry the Prawns: Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Dredge each prawn in the coating mixture and fry in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Prepare the Aromatics: Sauté minced garlic, chopped red chilies, and green onions in another pan over low heat.
- Combine and Serve: Toss the fried prawns with the sautéed aromatics and serve hot, garnished with extra green onion if desired.
Notes
For added flavor, consider marinating the prawns briefly before frying. Adjust the chilies based on your heat preference.
