Ingredients
- 1 pound (454 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined (450 grams)
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) cornstarch (60 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) baking powder (5 grams)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt (5 grams)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) ground white pepper (1 gram)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) ground black pepper (1 gram)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) garlic powder (1 gram)
- 1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) onion powder (1 gram)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-2 fresh red or green chilies, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) soy sauce (5 milliliters)
- 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sesame oil (5 milliliters)
Instructions
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, combine cornstarch, baking powder, salt, white pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Add the shrimp to the cornstarch mixture and toss until well coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat for frying.
- Once the oil is hot, fry the shrimp in batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and drain on paper towels.
- In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and sliced chilies to the pan, sauté for about 1 minute.
- Add the crispy shrimp to the pan and toss with the garlic and chilies.
- Add chopped green onions, soy sauce, and sesame oil to the shrimp, and toss to combine.
- Cook for another minute to allow flavors to meld together.
- Remove from heat and serve immediately.
