Learn how to make delicious Chinese Chili Garlic Shrimp at home with this easy recipe! Perfectly seasoned shrimp with a spicy kick, a must-try dish!
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil
- 1 lb (454 g) shrimp, cleaned, deveined, patted dry
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) honey
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) cilantro, minced
- 1/4 lime
- 1/4 – 1/2 tsp (3 ml) chili flakes
Instructions
- Sprinkle the shrimp with 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. When hot, place the shrimp in the pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side, or 2-3 minutes for larger pieces. Take the shrimp out of the pan and set them aside.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the chili flakes and garlic. Stir and cook gently until they become soft and aromatic, without browning, for about 2-3 minutes. If they start to brown, lower the heat further.
- In a separate bowl, blend the soy sauce, water, and honey until the honey starts to dissolve. If any honey remains unmixed, it will incorporate once heated in the pan.
- Pour this mixture into the pan with the garlic and allow it to reduce, stirring frequently. Note that the soy sauce may bubble vigorously; just keep stirring. Cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Return the shrimp to the pan, add a dash of lime juice and the cilantro. Stir to coat the shrimp thoroughly, and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes if needed. Enjoy!
