Description

Learn how to make delicious Chinese Chili Garlic Shrimp at home with this easy recipe! Perfectly seasoned shrimp with a spicy kick, a must-try dish!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 lb (454 g) shrimp, cleaned, deveined, patted dry
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) cilantro, minced
  • 1/4 lime
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp (3 ml) chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle the shrimp with 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. When hot, place the shrimp in the pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side, or 2-3 minutes for larger pieces. Take the shrimp out of the pan and set them aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and add the chili flakes and garlic. Stir and cook gently until they become soft and aromatic, without browning, for about 2-3 minutes. If they start to brown, lower the heat further.
  4. In a separate bowl, blend the soy sauce, water, and honey until the honey starts to dissolve. If any honey remains unmixed, it will incorporate once heated in the pan.
  5. Pour this mixture into the pan with the garlic and allow it to reduce, stirring frequently. Note that the soy sauce may bubble vigorously; just keep stirring. Cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the shrimp to the pan, add a dash of lime juice and the cilantro. Stir to coat the shrimp thoroughly, and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes if needed. Enjoy!
