Description

Discover how to make flavorful Chili Garlic Shrimp with this easy recipe. Learn the secret to perfectly cooked shrimp with a kick of spicy garlic goodness.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (30 ml)
  • 1 lb shrimp (450 g), cleaned, deveined, patted dry
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (60 ml)
  • 1/4 cup water (60 ml)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) cilantro, minced
  • 1/4 lime
  • 1/4 – 1/2 tsp (3 ml) chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Sprinkle 1/2 tsp of salt over the shrimp.
  2. Warm the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is ready, place the shrimp in the pan and cook them for about 2 minutes on each side, adjusting to 2-3 minutes if they are larger. Remove the shrimp and set them aside.
  3. Turn the heat down to low and add the chili flakes and minced garlic, stirring and cooking gently until they are soft and aromatic, around 2-3 minutes. If they start to brown, reduce the heat even more.
  4. In a separate bowl, stir together the soy sauce, water, and honey until the honey starts to blend in. It’s okay if it doesn’t fully combine, as it will meld together when heated.
  5. Pour the soy mixture into the pan with the garlic and let it simmer, stirring frequently. Expect the soy sauce to bubble vigorously, but keep mixing. Let it cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Return the shrimp to the pan, add a splash of lime juice, and sprinkle the cilantro over. Stir well to coat the shrimp and complete their cooking, if necessary, for an additional 1-2 minutes. Enjoy!
