Ingredients
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) smoked Spanish paprika
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) garlic powder
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) Aleppo pepper flakes or 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) red pepper flakes
- – 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) ground cumin
- – 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) sumac
- – Salt
- – Freshly ground black pepper
- – 1 pound (450 g) salmon fillet, skin removed
- – Olive oil
- – 1 to 2 green onions, finely chopped
- – Lime wedges
- – 1/4 cup (60 ml) plain Greek yogurt
- – 2 tablespoons (30 ml) harissa paste
- – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey
- – Juice of 1 lime
- – Salt
Instructions
- Blend the spices. In a small dish, thoroughly mix the smoked Spanish paprika, garlic powder, Aleppo pepper flakes, ground cumin, sumac, and a generous pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Prepare the salmon. Dry the salmon with a paper towel and slice into 1-inch cubes. Generously coat the salmon pieces with the spice mixture, ensuring an even distribution.
- Create the harissa-yogurt mixture. In a medium bowl, combine the plain Greek yogurt, harissa paste, honey, lime juice, and a generous pinch of salt. Whisk them together until you achieve a smooth consistency, then set aside.
- Cook the salmon bites. Heat about 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat until it shimmers. Place the salmon pieces in a single layer without overcrowding. Lower the heat to medium and gently press down on the salmon with a spatula for a few seconds. Allow them to cook untouched for 4 to 5 minutes, until the bottoms are crispy and the centers are more opaque. Flip them and continue cooking for 1 to 2 more minutes until they flake easily with a fork.
- Finish and present. Move the cooked salmon to a serving dish and drizzle with fresh lime juice. Add a touch of the harissa-yogurt sauce and scatter the finely chopped green onions on top. Serve immediately with the remaining harissa-yogurt sauce on the side.
Notes
- For a spicier flavor, use the full amount of Aleppo pepper flakes or red pepper flakes in the spice mixture.
- Pat the salmon dry before coating with the spice mixture for better adherence.
- Adjust cooking time based on salmon cube thickness to ensure they are cooked through yet moist and tender.
