Description

A quick and hearty dish that combines canned tuna with your choice of pasta, infused with garlic, olive oil, and a touch of red pepper flakes.

Ingredients

  • 350 g dried pasta (any type or shape)
  • 3 cans of chunk tuna in oil (drained, typically 3×145 g or 5.1 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ⅓ cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 large garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 100 g cream cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • ½ cup reserved pasta water
  • ½ teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Boil the pasta in salted water until al dente, usually around 8 to 10 minutes. Reserve some pasta water before draining.
  2. In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onions for about 2 minutes until they start to become translucent. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
  3. Lower the heat and add the red pepper flakes, stirring to combine.
  4. Mix in the drained pasta along with the optional cream cheese and a bit of the reserved pasta water. Stir gently to combine, allowing the cream cheese to melt into the pasta.
  5. Fold in the drained tuna and season generously with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

Always reserve some cooking water for the sauce. Adjust the heat level with red pepper flakes according to your preference.
