Description
A quick and hearty dish that combines canned tuna with your choice of pasta, infused with garlic, olive oil, and a touch of red pepper flakes.
Ingredients
- 350 g dried pasta (any type or shape)
- 3 cans of chunk tuna in oil (drained, typically 3×145 g or 5.1 oz)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ⅓ cup onion (chopped)
- 2 large garlic cloves (chopped)
- 100 g cream cheese (optional)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- ½ cup reserved pasta water
- ½ teaspoon salt (to taste)
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Boil the pasta in salted water until al dente, usually around 8 to 10 minutes. Reserve some pasta water before draining.
- In a pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onions for about 2 minutes until they start to become translucent. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Lower the heat and add the red pepper flakes, stirring to combine.
- Mix in the drained pasta along with the optional cream cheese and a bit of the reserved pasta water. Stir gently to combine, allowing the cream cheese to melt into the pasta.
- Fold in the drained tuna and season generously with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Always reserve some cooking water for the sauce. Adjust the heat level with red pepper flakes according to your preference.
