A classic Southern dish combining sweet shrimp and creamy grits, embodying flavors of the coast.
Ingredients
- 1 lb fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined
- 1 cup grits (preferably stone-ground)
- 4 cups water or stock
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon spice blend (salt, pepper, cayenne)
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Bring water or stock to a boil in a pot. Stir in the grits gradually while whisking.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
- In a separate skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic until fragrant.
- Toss in the cleaned shrimp and season with salt, pepper, and a dash of cayenne.
- Cook shrimp until they turn pink and opaque, approximately 3-5 minutes.
- Once grits are creamy, stir in butter for added richness.
- Serve the grits topped with garlic shrimp, garnished with chopped green onions.
Notes
For better texture and flavor, it’s recommended to use stone-ground grits and keep ingredients at room temperature before cooking.
