Description

A classic Southern dish combining sweet shrimp and creamy grits, embodying flavors of the coast.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh shrimp, cleaned and deveined
  • 1 cup grits (preferably stone-ground)
  • 4 cups water or stock
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon spice blend (salt, pepper, cayenne)
  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring water or stock to a boil in a pot. Stir in the grits gradually while whisking.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a separate skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic until fragrant.
  4. Toss in the cleaned shrimp and season with salt, pepper, and a dash of cayenne.
  5. Cook shrimp until they turn pink and opaque, approximately 3-5 minutes.
  6. Once grits are creamy, stir in butter for added richness.
  7. Serve the grits topped with garlic shrimp, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

For better texture and flavor, it’s recommended to use stone-ground grits and keep ingredients at room temperature before cooking.
