Description

Crispy Bang Bang Shrimp with a sweet and spicy sauce, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails removed)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup high-quality mayonnaise
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1-2 teaspoons Sriracha hot sauce (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp, buttermilk, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Let marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Add the cornstarch to a shallow dish.
  3. Working one shrimp at a time, remove it from the marinade and shake off excess liquid. Dredge in cornstarch until fully coated and transfer to a baking sheet.
  4. Heat 1 ½ inches of oil to 350°F in a large pot.
  5. Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2 minutes, until golden brown and crispy, ensuring internal temperature reaches 145°F.
  6. Transfer the fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.

Notes

For extra flavor, garnish with chopped scallions or sesame seeds. Adjust Sriracha for desired spiciness.
